113 dead in stampede at Hindu temple near Jodhpur
NEW DELHI: At least 113 people were killed and scores injured Tuesday in a massive stampede at a Hindu temple in the western state of Rajasthan.
Jodhpur police official, Malini Agarwal said that over 12,000 Hindu worshippers had gathered at a temple for performing their religious rites. The injured have been shifted to the hospital, while appeals were being made to the people for remaining calm and peaceful.

House Rejects $700 Billion Bailout Plan
The House of Representatives rejected a $700 billion bailout plan by a vote of 228 to 205.
The bill would have authorized the Treasury Department to spend up to $700 billion to purchase broken mortgage-backed assets from banks with the goal of thawing frozen capital markets.

It is visited by many trekkers who follow the hashish trail. Manali's charas is considered to be the best in India. The valleys provide natural U.V lights as fields are high up the mountain and high grade grows directly from the sunlight.ala. Chinese milk producers putting melamine in baby milk
BEIJING -- A Chinese dairy that sold milk powder linked to kidney stones in infants knew it contained a banned chemical weeks before ordering a recall, the health minister said Saturday.
One child has died and an official said the number of children sickened had risen to 432.
Investigators have detained 19 people and are questioning 78 to find out how melamine was added to milk supplied to Sanlu Group Co., China's biggest milk powder producer, officials said at a news conference. They said some tainted powder was exported to Taiwan but none was sent to other foreign markets.
In Taiwan, authorities seized thousands of bags of Chinese milk powder. The incident reflects China's enduring problems with product safety despite a shake-up of its regulatory system after a spate of warnings and recalls about tainted toothpaste, faulty tires and other goods.
The biggest group of victims is in China itself, where shoddy or counterfeit products are common. Infants, hospital patients and others have been killed or injured by tainted or fake milk, medicines, liquor and other products.
In 2004, more than 200 infants suffered malnutrition and at least 12 died after being fed phony formula with no nutrients. Some 40 companies were found to be making phony formula

Pirates of the Gulf of Aden - Somalia Hijack

Somalia's ports and fisheries minister urges countries to use force on pirates who have hijacked at least 30 vessels this year in the Gulf of Aden. French navy officials say their forces are in the area and are ready to intervene. Here's more.
STORY:
Somali pirates are currently holding about 10 vessels for ransom at Eyl, a lawless former fishing outpost in the Puntland region.
A ship from Egypt was hijacked yesterday and a French yacht the day before, with two French nationals onboard.
The Somali government is urging countries whose nationals and shipping vessels have been hijacked by pirates to use force.
[Ahmed Said Aw-Nur, Puntland's Fisheries and Ports Minister]:
"The Puntland administration is appealing to companies and governments to which these ships belong, the ones whose nationals are being held by Somali pirates, not to pay any ransom but to use force."
A recent resolution at the United Nations Security Council gave the right to chase pirates into Somalia's territorial waters.
French government officials say they are ready to intervene if necessary.
[Captain Prazuck, Spokesman for the French Navy]:
"We have important French military forces in Djibouti, these forces are ready to intervene on any mission we will give them."
In April, French commandos launched a helicopter raid to arrest six Somali pirates after they freed the 30-strong crew of a luxury yacht they had hijacked days earlier.
Somali gunmen have seized at least 30 vessels so far this year, making the shipping lanes off the Horn of Africa country the most dangerous in the world.
They are currently demanding a ransom of more than $9 million to free two Malaysian tankers, a Japanese-managed bulk carrier and a Nigerian tug boat held captive near Eyl.
