Rs. 1200/- per child per year is provided over and above other SSA nterventions, to meet the educational requirements of Mentally Challenged Children. The Framework for Implementation under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan provides for inclusive education for children with special needs.
The interventions under SSA for inclusive education include, inter alia , identification of such children by category of disability, their functional and formal medical assessment, appropriate educational placement in schools, home based education or bridge courses, preparation of individualized educational plans, provision of aids and appliances, teacher training, resource support, removal of architectural barriers such as ramps etc. and monitoring and evaluation.
