Defence Minister Shri AK Antony presented the Defence Minister's Awards for Excellence for the year 2006-07 to Bharat Electronics Ltd., Bangalore for Best Performance in Exports.
BEML are makers of earthmoving and other heavy industrial equipment, for the mining and civil engineering industries.
BEML Limited (formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited) was established in May 1964 as a Public Sector Undertaking for manufacture of Rail Coaches & Spare Parts and Mining Equipment at its Bangalore Complex. The Company ha s partially disinvested and presently Government of India owns 54 percent of total equity and rest 46 percent is held by Public, Financial institutions, Foreign Institutional Investors, Banks and Employees.
During the financial year 2007-08, BEML achieved a sales turnover of INR 2713 crores and a pre tax profit of INR 348 crores. The export earnings touched INR 200.62 crores.
Major achievements of BEL during the year 2006-07 are – 81% of its turnover came from indigenously developed products; more than 25 new products introduced and supplied during the year; major new products supplied include Advanced Land Navigation System, Jammers (Safari), Hand Held UHF Radio VPS Mk III and Upgraded Electronic Voting Machines.
