In India Madrassa Modernization is promoted through Government Schemes too. "The Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madrassas (SPQEM)" is now the erstwhile scheme for madrassa modernization for the XIth Plan period.
Under the scheme madrassas volunteering for the opportunity to acquire education comparable to the national education system could seek linkages with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for subjects like science, mathematics, social studies, languages etc.
To get benefit of the scheme SPQEM state Governments would need to send proposals for madrassas to be assisted, as per the guidelines of the revamped scheme.
