Defence Minister Shri AK Antony presented the Defence Minister's Awards for Excellence for the year 2006-07 to Bharat Electronics Ltd., Bangalore. Bharat Electronics Limited also known as BEL which was established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Defence at Bengaluru (Previous name Bangalore), India, in 1954 to meet the specialised electronic needs of the Indian defence services. It provides a widw range of services including software development, semiconductor device packing and quality assurance services. Manufacturers of defence and civil communication products.
Major achievements of BEL during the year 2006-07 are – 81% of its turnover came from indigenously developed products; more than 25 new products introduced and supplied during the year; major new products supplied include Advanced Land Navigation System, Jammers (Safari), Hand Held UHF Radio VPS Mk III and Upgraded Electronic Voting Machines.
